The software allows Android smartphone owners to create Microsoft Office Word and Excel documents, as well as open and edit Word, Excel, and PowerPoint documents, but it requires a subscription to Microsoft's Office 365 service. The subscription carries monthly fees. Office Mobile allows Android smartphone owners to open Office documents embedded in emails, and syncs document changes back to SkyDrive or SharePoint automatically. It also supports collaboration tools, such as adding and viewing comments, and sharing documents with others via email or SharePoint. Office Mobile for Office 365 is optimized for the Android phones, not tablets, and requires Android 4.0 and up. Microsoft released Office Mobile for Apple's iPhone earlier this year.
