C Spire Customers to Receive Emergency Alerts

C Spire Wireless today announced that it has joined the Commercial Mobile Alert System (CMAS) program so that it can broadcast Wireless Emergency Alerts (WEA) over its network. C Spire customers will begin to receive location-based alerts about severe weather threats, missing persons, or Presidential alerts during national emergencies. Customers can opt not to receive the weather and missing persons alerts, but no one can opt out of Presidential alerts. C Spire created an app specifically for its Android handsets to receive the alerts, but several iPhone and BlackBerry models will receive the alerts, too. The system is operational as of today.
