Dish Networks today withdrew its tender offer for Clearwire following Clearwire's recent decision to side with Sprint's revised acquisition terms. The withdrawal is an admission of defeat for Dish. Dish also recently withdrew from its attempts to purchase Sprint. It had hoped to buy both Clearwire and Sprint to launch cellular services of its own. Dish also today asked the Federal Communications Commission for more time to make use of its 700MHz spectrum holdings. Dish bid on and won some 700MHz spectrum during the 2008 FCC auction. One of the provisions of the auction was that the spectrum be used for wireless broadband networks within a certain time frame. Dish cited several roadblocks that it has faced and is seeking an extension from the FCC.
