iPhone flashed to Boost, need help

Ok, so i can get an iPhone flashed to Boost with my # but it only gives me talk, text, mms & 1xRtt data only… To get 3G data working on it, i have to have another phone # thru boost (then program it to the phone to be used as a data profile only) to get 3G working..??
Why is this..??
