Apple has scaled back orders for memory chips from Samsung, reports Reuters. Citing an unnamed source familiar with Apple's plans, Reuters says that the move by Apple has nothing to do with the ongoing legal battles between the two companies. Instead, Apple is seeking to diversify its component suppliers ahead of product launches planned for the fall in order to avoid supply chain problems. "Samsung is still on the list of initial memory chip suppliers (for new iPhones). But Apple orders have been trending down," said Reuters' source. Apple purchases a number of iPhone, iPad, and iPod components from Samsung, including DRAM and NAND memory chips, and the microprocessor that run the devices. Neither Samsung nor Apple commented on Reuters' story.
